What is car window tinting?

Car window tint or film is made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET). PET comes in a range of shades which is created by the amount of metal and dye within the film. This material is typically applied to the interior of car windows and allows certain types of light rays through while reflecting or absorbing others. Window tinting is highly popular as it provides UV protection, privacy and shade from the sunlight.

How does window tinting film work?

Window tint for cars is applied to the interior of the window glass surface. It is applied internally instead of externally to help protect the film from wear and tear whilst the vehicle is being driven. The PET tint makes up the bulk of the film with the second layer being used to block and reflect harmful UV rays, reduce glare and protect passengers against skin cancer. In addition, window tinting can also prevent heat from escaping from within the car, thus providing a warmer and more comfortable temperature while driving.

Preparation

Before bringing your vehicle to our premises, we recommend cleaning your car and removing anything from within. Upon arrival, we will clean the windows of any dirt or contaminants.

Prime

We will prep and prime your windows. Then we will use scratch-resistant blades to cut the film to size on the outside of the glass and shrink it to size with heat guns.

Completion

The windows will look hazy, and bubbles will begin to gather under the surface at first. This is normal and after 7-10 days the water under the tint will ‘clot’ together before evaporating.
